Sony BMG Music has launched a new Web site, Musicbox Video, which features music videos from the label's artists and will offer interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and more video content. However, rather than protecting the content from other sites, the label is encouraging bloggers to link to the clips and share them on the Web, a la YouTube and similar sites. The videos are in Flash format and cannot be easily pirated.
The new site is the result of a partnership with Brightcove, which hosts the site and sells advertising. Founder Jeremy Allaire tells CNet, "The media organizations are starting to embrace the idea that their library of assets can be exploited through thousands of touch points. It is an opportunity to embrace that urge among consumers to post videos."
Content on the still-growing site is currently limited to the newest videos and hit songs, but more clips are promised in the near futures.
